"One of the hardest parts of losing weight is maintaining the lifestyle changes you’ve made. It’s difficult to stay motivated all the time, especially if you’ve slipped up along the way. But don’t let this affect your end goal. If you’re feeling particularly unmotivated, ask a friend to join you for your workout and then afterwards cook something healthy for dinner together."

One major mistake many overweight people make is to mistake bodybuilding training - that which emphasizes weights over cardio - for a pure muscle building activity. While weight training does of course build muscle it also encourages fat loss, a fact lost of those who instead opt to run on the treadmill five days a week, burning a little fat, but losing much of their muscle size in the process. Cardio activity is something that should not be overlooked when aiming to lose body fat, but it is only half of the equation. Yet ask most people what the most effective method for burning body fat is and they will almost universally tell you that it is aerobic activity.
Weight training is the ultimate way to burn calories fast. "A pound of muscle burns up to nine times the calories of a pound of fat," explains Richard Cotton, M.A., chief exercise physiologist for myexerciseplan.com. Weight training increases your resting metabolic rate, which is the number of calories you burn while sitting on your butt. What's more, it gives your metabolism an added boost after you exercise, staying in overdrive for up to two hours after the last bench press, according to a study published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. Strapped for time? Try these quick moves: squats, bench step-ups, lunges, push-ups, pull-ups and planks. In a pinch, just do single sets of 10 for each exercise — you'll get optimal results for the time invested.
You must rotate your protein shakes by switching from brand to brand every two weeks. There are elements within the manufacturing process that create allergic reactions which are similar to the symptoms listed in the paragraph above. A great alternative to protein shakes between meals is the combination of 100 % MR and Muscle Synthesis as it provides excellent building blocks for new muscle without any ingredients that can cause allergies. Furthermore Muscle Synthesis will absorb quickly and muscles will utilize an unbelievable amount of amino acids which are 100% anabolic on arrival.
Yeah, we just told you to pump iron, but you also need to eat it. "If you don't have enough of this mineral, your body can't get enough oxygen to your cells, which slows down your metabolism," explains Samantha Heller, R.D., a nutritionist at the New York University Medical Center. Most multivitamins contain around 18 mg (the RDA for adults); you can also get your fill by eating three to four daily servings of foods rich in iron, such as lean red meat, chicken, fortified cereal, and soy nuts. If you're feeling symptoms like fatigue and weakness, ask your doctor to test you for anemia (it's a simple blood test) at your next physical.
WET SOCK TREATMENT: Drench cotton socks in cold water, wring them out and put in the fridge for six to ten hours. Before bed, soak your feet in warm water (as hot as you can handle) for 15 minutes, dry and then put on the cold, wet socks from the fridge, cover with dry heavy wool socks and go straight to bed. The cold socks trigger a rush of blood to the feet, which puts your circulatory system on alert, stimulating your immune system. You will wake in the morning feeling refreshed and invigorated. While the outer socks may be damp, they won’t leave your bed sopping.

Bars have come a long way when it comes to taste, but they are nothing more than high protein candy bars. They are a great tool for gaining weight or every once in a while when you are in a pinch. Otherwise do not use them, be aware that this “net impact carbs” and other labeling tricks are a scam. Companies have replaced sugar with other sweeteners which do not count as carbs on the label. As a result you end up with a bar “low in carbs” but sky high in sweeteners that will cause more havoc with insulin levels than real sugar. I have yet to find a bar high enough in fiber and low in sweeteners to allow people to lose body fat when eaten regularly.
2. After the juice cleanse, drink plenty of water (room temperature is best as drinking iced water can be harsh for the digestive system) with a few slices of lemon, limes, (and in the summer you can add sliced cucumbers) to keep body hydrated, your skin radiant and to keep your stomach filled. Also, most often than not, when you feel the sensation of being hungry it can be thirst. Have an 8oz glass of lemon water before eating any food, wait 10 minutes, and if still hungry, eat your food. Leave at least two hours or more in between intakes of food so your body can have time to digest. Notes: Make sure the lemon water is homemade, lemonade sold in stores is packed with sugar. Also, when making your own lemon water, make sure you do not add any sugar.
Creatine, a potent muscle-builder, may also help you burn fat. The muscle added during creatine use increases your resting metabolic rate, stoking your fat-burning furnace. This is critical during a fat-loss phase, when low calorie intake can compromise your muscle mass and lower your metabolic rate. Begin with a five-day loading phase: 15-20g daily, divided into 3-4 equal doses. After that, take 3-5g of creatine per day with a meal post-exercise.

Add a cup of low-fat milk, a part-skim mozzarella stick, or a half cup of low-sodium cottage cheese to breakfast, and you may have a belly-busting win. While lots of research links calcium with lower body weights, results from a 2014 study suggest that calcium-containing foods may reduce waist circumference in those genetically predisposed to carrying weight in their midsection.
This could be because the body increases insulin secretion in anticipation that sugar will appear in the blood. When this doesn’t happen, blood sugar drops and hunger increases. Whether this chain of events regularly takes place is somewhat unclear. Something odd happened when I tested Pepsi Max though, and there are well-designed studies showing increased insulin when using artificial sweeteners.

1. Nutrition & Hydration – the body is 70% composed of water, and it’s involved in almost every systemic function – ensuring the appropriate level of hydration prior to your workout lifts your training efficiency, and enables your body to make full use of its fuel for your session. Eliminating refined sugars, going low-GI, opting for a diet rich in lean proteins, pursuing healthy fats (think avocados, olive oil, and fish) & eating little-and-often through the day are the best way to regulate sugar levels.

However, due to the intense exercise, the total calorie consumption is higher. We burn more calories due to the hard muscle work – even AFTER the run. The body needs more energy for recovery, thereby burning even more calories. That’s how you benefit from post-workout fat burning and the afterburn effect (EPOC, excess post-exercise oxygen consumption). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CN-1CUm3J8
Every time you complete 10 reps on the rowing machine, lift the handles straight up over your head—without bending your elbows—for two consecutive repetitions before returning to normal rowing form. This works your shoulders and back harder, as well as your legs, since they have to produce more power to give you the momentum to perform the move, says McGarr.

Make sure to follow up leg day with a muscle-replenishing protein shake. According to a study published in the journal Sports Medicine, supplementing resistance training with whey protein helps your body build lean muscle. And the more metabolism-boosting muscle mass you pack on, the more fat you’ll burn, even at rest. What’s more, the study showed that the whey and resistance workout combo also improved upper and lower body strength. Want to kick up the fat-loss a notch? Researchers noticed that these glorious benefits were enhanced when whey is combined with creatine.
If you want to support your weight loss efforts, you have to drink sufficient water. It serves so many key functions towards your efforts to shed the unwanted kilos. Water is critical to ensuring that your brain and your body function optimally. Being dehydrated will downregulate every cellular process in your body. Not getting enough water can also impact muscle protein synthesis and even 3 per cent dehydration can hit your strength and power output when training in the gym.
This drug is an injected variant of a satiety hormone called GLP-1. It slows down how quickly the stomach empties and tells the brain that you don’t need to eat yet – a great idea for losing weight. As a bonus this drug works fine while one is on the keto diet and it works even better with intermittent fasting – for a rapid weight loss with no hunger.
3. Perform 2-4 short “tabata” style work outs (20 seconds on, 10 seconds off for 8 rounds) throughout the day.  Don’t worry about making it really difficult, just get up and move your booty.  Good movements are basic body weight movements like – planks, jump squats, ground touch jump squats, pushups, air squats, lateral lunges, back ward lunges, forward lunges, squat thrusts, burpees, etc.  Mix the movements up!  Don’t think you have to perform the same movement for all 8 rounds.

Further, by building muscle - and thus permanently increasing our metabolic rate - we become walking furnaces, burning fat even while at rest. Given that muscle is a metabolically active tissue, it requires a continual turnover of energy to maintain, a degree of output that steadily targets our fat cells for fuel. The dilemma we face, then, lies in determining just how much cardio and weight training should be done to maximize the fat burning effect. One common theme that has emerged in reviewing the results of the many people I have trained over the years is the profound effect weight training has had on their weight loss success.
Now that you know more than you thought you ever would about the science of fat loss, we have an important reminder: Always focus on moving daily and eating a well-balanced, healthy diet. Don’t avoid carbs, protein or fat — your body needs it all. Another great thing you can do for yourself is to sign up for 8fit to get meals that are tailored to your preferences, your wellness goals, and your different macronutrient needs.

Go for a swim and up your fluid intake, drink loads of water and green vegetable juices. Every season offers us an abundance of water-rich fruits; in summers you have fruits like melons, in the winter months go for amla-water or warm nimbu-paani. Go for the incredible summer fruits and vegetables that are 96% water. In fact a study showed how 14 men and women increased their metabolic rate by 30% by just increasing their water intake on a daily basis.
To figure out how many calories you burn a day, calculate your resting metabolic rate—the number of calories you burn daily doing routine activities, not including formal exercise—using this formula: RMR = bodyweight (in lbs) x 13. Next, determine how many calories you burn through exercise—a half-hour of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise burns around 350 calories in the average man, and a half-hour of lifting burns around 200. Add your RMR to the calories you burn in the gym, and keep your daily calorie consumption below that total.
For overall health improvements - the mental boost it provides and enhanced blood circulation etc - aerobic exercise should be included in any good fitness program, and indeed it does burn body fat and can assist weight training throughout this process. But to overemphasize it while neglecting high intensity weight training is a fundamental mistake. In fact, excessive cardio may negate our weight training efforts; it can rob us of our strength and negatively impact our recovery abilities. Yet, used correctly as a tool rather than blindly using it as foundational to the achievement of our fitness goals, it can improve recovery and enhance muscle growth: three 45 minute sessions per week would be sufficient, slightly more or less depending on the host of individual factors (metabolic response, body type and so on) that often make designing specific training programs difficult.
Dairy products contain varying amounts of lactose (milk sugar), which slows down weight loss. What’s more, part of the protein in milk generates a significant insulin response, which can have the same effect. Consequently, cutting back on dairy products may accelerate weight loss. This applies especially to dairy products typically lacking in fat, such as regular milk and various yogurts, but be careful with full-fat dairy such as cream and cheese all the same. And don’t forget whey protein powder, which is pure milk protein.
First a little background so you understand the value of the list below. We mention blood sugar and insulin several times as both are key components in the fat loss equation. Blood Sugar levels are affected by food choices, combinations and timing. Certain food items will spike blood sugar which causes insulin to rise. While insulin is not always bad; in the case of losing fat it must be kept under control as it is the most potent fat storing hormone the body produces.
"There's definitely no secret to fat loss. It just takes good old fashioned hard work and dedication," adds Cappotelli. "Just like with anything, the keys are time and consistency. Results come by doing the right things day-in and day-out. It's making the right choices and sticking to your workout plan consistently, not looking for a quick fix or the secret formula to rapid fat loss."
Figure out your goals. How much weight are we talking here? 3 pounds? 10 pounds? A healthy amount is 1 or 2 pounds a week, but in the first week it's possible to lose a lot more (mainly water weight), so we're not going to do any dream crushing just yet. Just figure out how much you want to lose during the next 240 hours.Let's say you want to lose 5 pounds in the next 10 days. That's 1 pound every 2 days. Since a pound is 3,500 calories, that's 1,750 calories you need to lose every day. What's your amount?
To encourage ketone production, the amount of insulin in your bloodstream must be low. The lower your insulin, the higher your ketone production. And when you have a well-controlled, sufficiently large amount of ketones in your blood, it’s basically proof that your insulin is very low – and therefore, that you’re enjoying the maximum effect of your low-carbohydrate diet. That’s what’s called optimal ketosis.
Amino Loading is a term we use to describe the combination of 100 % MR and Muscle Synthesis which efficiently deliver crucial amino acids in a rapid fashion. Consumed before training this unique combo forces the body to use more stored fat as fuel during exercise while also helping the trainee to shift to a more anabolic (fat burning) hormonal environment. During and after training amino acids provide an alternative energy source to support improved training performance (especially important during a low carb diet) and lay the building blocks needed for new muscle growth. Following training your first priority should be accelerating recovery and Amino Loading provides the critical ratios of amino acids needed to be quickly assimilated into hungry muscles. A protein shake post workout alone does not do the job, during training you pump blood into the muscles to act as a nutrient super highway to carry in raw materials. Drinking a shake following training will draw blood away from the muscles and into the stomach to support digestion which deteriorates much of the raw material value and slows down the delivery of nutrients.

A 2012 study also showed that people on a low-carb diet burned 300 more calories a day – while resting! According to one of the Harvard professors behind the study this advantage “would equal the number of calories typically burned in an hour of moderate-intensity physical activity”. Imagine that: an entire bonus hour of exercise every day, without actually exercising. A later, even larger and more carefully conducted study confirmed the effect, with different groups of people on low-carb diets burning an average of between 200 and almost 500 extra calories per day.

Dairy products such as cream and cheeses. They work well in cooking as they satisfy. The problem is if you’re munching a lot of cheese in front of the TV in the evening… without being hungry. Be careful with that. Or lots of cream with dessert, when you’re actually already full and just keep eating because it tastes good. Or another common culprit: loads of heavy cream in the coffee, many times per day.

Many studies have proven that breakfast eaters tend to have a healthy weight compared to those who skip their morning meal. When you eat a healthy breakfast, your body feels nourished and satisfied, helping you to make healthier food choices during the day. Research has found that people who skip breakfast compensate later in the day with more unhealthy foods - such as refined carbohydrates, fats and fewer fruits and vegetables. Eating breakfast helps kickstart digestion and boosts your metabolism, which helps you burn more calories throughout the day. Having breakfast actually improves weight loss and reduces the risk of obesity and insulin resistance. Read: Here are 6 simple tips for weight loss and preventing belly fat
Another win for your morning cup of joe: Caffeinated coffee keeps things moving through the digestive tract. Since staying regular is key to a tighter-looking tummy, drinking about 8 to 16 ounces of java at the same time every day can help you stay on schedule. Remember: Sugary drinks can lead to weight gain, so skip fancy flavorings and synthetic sweeteners containing sugar alcohols, which can cause bloating.
For breakfast, try making a smoothie with plain yogurt, (plain is the best way to go because it has the smallest amount of sugar) with 1 piece of fruit of your choice and protein. If you are still hungry, try a handful of nuts (size of your palm), sliced apple w/almond or peanut butter, 2 scrambled eggs (can be mixed with some veggies).  Keep your sugar intake minimized, if any at all.  Keep your fruit intake to 3 pieces a day (fruits have sugar, even though it’s natural sugar and it’s less harmful than processed sugar). Remember that processed sugar and processed foods will leave your stomach feeling empty, leading your to eat more when unnecessary. Read labels, know what you are putting in your body. If you can’t pronounce the ingredients, and if it’s an endless list, you may be better off eating something closer to nature. The less processed the better. The closer to nature, the more nourishing it’ll be and the more satisfied you’ll be.
That place where fat is stored — the adipose tissue — is our body fat. It’s brought there via the bloodstream (i). Adipose tissue is made of adipocytes, cells specialized in the storage of fat. These cells look like bubbles packed close to each other. When our body uses the fat contained in the bubbles, they decrease in size. But, when we store excess fat (coming from any foods), the bubbles increase in size (hypertrophy) and number (hyperplasia).
If you’re only getting a minimal amount of sleep each night, that leaves more time for you to snack and make otherwise unhealthy decisions that could affect your weight loss. Although it will vary from person to person on how much sleep you actually need to be most effective (and therefore make progress toward your weight loss goals), the ideal number is typically 7 or 8 hours, says Dr. Cheskin. (Struggling to get that shut-eye? This doctor-approved breathing exercise will help you fall asleep fast.)

You don’t have to go low-carb to ditch those extra pounds around your waist in a short period of time. In fact, opting for more whole grains might just get you there faster. Researchers at Tufts University have linked eating three or more daily servings of whole grains to as much as a 10 percent reduction in visceral body fat, the kind that ups your risk for chronic diseases, like diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZVS9FaPvXc
